Ataman: ”We started good but lost the control in the second quarter…”

Defeated by Fenerbahçe Doğuş 89-84 in the 19th-week match of Turkish Airlines Euroleague game, Anadolu Efes head coach Ergin Ataman stated his thoughts at the post-game press conference:

“We started with good basketball. We moved the ball, found open shots and were successful on defense, stopping Fenerbahçe's offense. Fenerbahçe's aggressivity raised, we tried to raise ours too. Though some of the fouls, especially the ones that were called for Dunston didn’t make sense. Dunston is our best player on defense. If you look at the statistics, you will see that the first and third quarters were tied and we won the fourth quarter, and our only problem was in the second quarter because I think we lost control and our game discipline. Fenerbahçe played well in this part while we lost empty shoots. We lost our balance in the second quarter and then, all game, we followed them and finally, Fenerbahçe won.”

Ergin Ataman also responded to a question that was asked in the press conference: Euroleague has sent an email in the weekday to the clubs and asked coaches to avoid to have statements that damaged the image of Euroleague in the press conferences and at the social media. Even though I received a penalty because of the matter, I believe that this is right. The thing I wonder is if the rival team supporters’ blasphemous cheering against myself and Efes supporters have damaged the image of Euroleague or not… I believe they should take precautions about the matter.”
