Dusan Ivkovic: “This match is a big step forward...”

Defeating the Spanish side Unicaja Malaga 85-75 at the fifth week match of Turkish Airlines Euroleague Top 16 Group E, Anadolu Efes Coach Dusan Ivkovic commented at the post-game press conference:

“Today, the two halves we watched were nothing like each other. In the first half, we experienced problems with our defense. We had problems boxing out and grabbing defensive rebounds in the first half. Our opponent had 11 offensive rebounds in this part of the game. We failed to capitalize on easy shots, and allowed the opponent to get easy points. At the end of the first half, we were trailing 46-47, which is a fairly high score. The 47 points that we allowed is pretty close to the average points that we allowed in the first halves of the matches we played in the Top 16. We played in a more balanced manner in the second half. While Unicaja Malaga was leading 50-57, we switched our rhythm on defense, and obtained the control of the game. We played well in the final quarter, scoring 19 points and only allowing nine. We won the game today, and I have to say that this match is a big step forward for my team. In the end, we won a game on the road. On the road against Lokomotiv Kuban, we were leading the whole game, yet lost in the final moments. The same was true at Zagreb against Cedevita Zagreb... Euroleague has been very tough this season. I assume that every point will be very valuable while calculating our chances for the Top 8. I would like to congratulate my lads. I would also like to wish Unicaja Malaga success in their upcoming games.”

Showcasing the best performance for Anadolu Efes with an index score of 19, Jayson Granger also stated his thoughts: “It was a really tough game. They dominated the first half. They were good at offensive rebounds in that half. In the second half, though, we only allowed them to score 28 points, and only nine of these points were in the final quarter. This was the key to the match. We know that Unicaja Malaga is a very strong team. They never give up on the game. It was a tough game and we did well.”
