Playing on the road against Real Madrid in the first match of the Euroleague play-off round, Anadolu Efes was defeated 80-71. Anadolu Efes was ahead 43-35 at the halftime of the match, played at Barclaycard Center.

With this result, Anadolu Efes is trailing 1-0 in the series. The second match of the series will be played at 8.00 PM (Turkish Time) on Friday, 17 April, back in Madrid.

Starting the match with Draper, Janning, Perperoglou Bjelica and Krstic, Anadolu Efes got its first field goal by Draper’s three pointer. Ahead 5-2 at the end of the first minute with Perperoglou, Efes was leading 7-4 after Janning’s three pointer in the second minute. Starting the second quarter with Cedi’s accurate free throw, Efes reclaimed the lead 23-22 in the 11th minute with Heurtel’s layup. As the opponent pulled up 27-23 in the 12th minute, Efes had a 7-0 scoring run with Draper, Lasme and Cedi, reclaiming the lead at 13.30 and forcing the opponent to call a timeout: 30-27. Extending the scoring run to 15-0 with Saric, Cedi, Lasme and Heurtel, Efes was leading 38-27 at 16.30. With the score 38-32 in the 18th minute, Ivkovic called a timeout. Getting five points by Saric in the final two minutes of the quarter after the timeout, Anadolu Efes was leading 43-35 while heading into the locker room at the halftime.

Following four points by the opponent at the start of the second half, Janning hit a mid-range jumper in the 22nd minute as Efes was leading 45-39. As the opponent pulled up 46-45 in the 24th minute, Birkan hit a three pointer to reclaim the lead: 48-46. Trailing 50-48 at the TV timeout in the 25th minute, Efes conceded a three pointer after the timeout, yet replied with another three by Perperoglou: 51-53. Trailing 59-51 in the 28th minute after the opponent’s scoring run, Efes had a field goal by Saric, bringing the lead down to six points with 1.20 to play in the quarter: 53-59. Unable to score in the remaining duration, Anadolu Efes was trailing 61-53 while heading into the final quarter. Starting the final quarter with Krstic’s points, Efes was behind 63-57 in the 33rd minute. With Cedi’s three pointer at 33.30, the margin was down to six points: 60-66. Behind 72-60 in the 36th minute, Anadolu Efes could not bring the margin down and left the court defeated 80-71.
