We were guests of Spain's Real Madrid in the seventh-week Turkish Airlines Euroleague match and were defeated 85-94. We finished the first half of the match played at Wizink Center, trailing 43-54.
While our last team’s starting five was Micic, Beaubios, Clyburn, M'Baye, and Pleiss, our first basket came from Pleiss. With the points of Micic and Clyburn, our team was behind 8-13 in the fifth minute. In the second five minutes of the quarter, our team scored consecutive points with Zizic, and Elijah found a layup in our last attack and we were behind 19-26 in the first 10 minutes of the game. We started the second period with Beaubios' mid-range hit: 21-29. With the points of Elijah and our new signing Taylor, the score came to 26-35 in the 13th minute. With Clyburn's two-pointer and Taylor's three points from an and-one position, we made the score 34-40 in the 15th minute. Our 36th point came from Clyburn, and coach Ergin Ataman took a timeout when the score was 36-44 in the 17th minute. On the return from the time-out, Taylor hit the foul line twice and Zizic hit one, and it was passed with a score of 39-45 in the 17th minute. In the remaining time, we scored two points each with Clyburn and Zizic and finished the first half of the game behind 43-54.
We started the second half with Pleiss' slam dunk and the score was 45-58 in the 21st minute. With three-pointers from Clyburn and Elijah, we made the score 51-62 at 24:30. When the score was 51-66 in the 26th minute, coach Ergin Ataman took a time-out. After the timeout, Micic and Clyburn scored five points each, and we scored 10-0 at 27:30 we narrowed the gap to five points: 61-66. We got another basket with Taylor in the remaining section and we were behind 63-69 in the last 10 minutes of the game. Our first points in the final period came from Zizic under the basket and we narrowed the gap to two points in the 31st minute: 67-69. At 32:30, the lead increased to 10 points again, and the score came to 69-77 in the 33rd minute with Taylor's under-the-pot. With the points from Micic and Zizic, we were behind 79-90 in the 37th minute of the match. Although we scored points with Taylor, Elijah, and Clyburn in the remaining three minutes, we couldn't close the gap and we lost the match 85-94.
