Ahmet Çakı: “We continued to fight, and displayed our determination...”

Defeating Fenerbahçe 80-72 at the fifth match of Spor Toto Basketball League playoff finals, Anadolu Efes coach Ahmet Çakı stated his thoughts at the post-game press conference:

“Since we desired the win a little bit too much, we were tense and felt under pressure in the beginning of the match. In return for that, we only scored six points at the end of the first quarter. Our performance in the first quarter was not good at all. At the halftime, we talked about how we shouldn’t let go of the match. We displayed our determination on offense, and put the game into balance. My lads reacted well. We won the match as we continued to fight, and displayed our determination. My players showcased their real characters. I would like to congratulate them. I told them about the pride I have in them even if the score sheet was the opposite. Two very high-quality teams are fighting. We managed to carry the series onto the away court, which makes me happy. I would also like to congratulate Fenerbahçe...”

Anadolu Efes’s Birkan Batuk also stated his thoughts: “We are happy that the series isn’t over yet. Even though we were not good in the beginning of the match, we didn’t give up and we managed to recover. In the second half, we were more solid on defense. We had a hard time scoring throughout the match. Our guards Heurtel and Granger got tired, but they were great in the final moments of the match. We are happy to be on the winning side. Our next match will be extremely difficult. Fenerbahçe will definitely want to win in front of their fans. I believe that we can win as long as we do our best for the whole 40 minutes...”
