Ataman: “It is important to come back and win with a 10-point difference in the last quarter…”

Defeating Galatasaray Doğa Sigorta 92-82 in the Tahincioğlu Basketball Super League game, Anadolu Efes head coach Ergin Ataman shared his thoughts at the post-game press conference:

“First of all, I congratulate Galatasaray Doğa Sigorta. They played very well for three quarters, they fought well. They’ve gained confidence with the results of the last weeks of the league games they played. We have had the tiredness of the Real Madrid match and tiredness of the traveling. We cannot begin the league games as well as the Euroleague games. We began badly to the match. The last quarter of Euroleague matches are our weak link. We would have our guard down in the last quarter, we would win the first quarters, our score would be low in the last quarter. It was the opposite today. We managed to come back 12-13 points and win with a 10-point difference against a well playing Galatasaray in the last quarter. This is an important move for us, looking from the bright side, I congratulate my players.”

Our team captain Doğuş Balbay also shared his thoughts at the press conference: “Today we watched a match with two entirely different halves. We had issues with rebounds in the first half of the match. Rival’s rebound percentage was higher than ours in this part. We finished the first half trailing 12 points. Though in the second half we were more effective in the defensive rebounds and showed a great character. We have had some matches that we couldn’t play in the last quarters. Though today was the opposite and while we were trailing 7 points when we began the final quarter and won. The second half began. Every match is as critical to us. Every match will go as close as this one. This is the reason we have to work very well. Today we failed to begin well but we finished well. We have subjects to work on and improve. We will concentrate on the match we will play on Euroleague now.”
