Dusan Ivkovic: “The key was to control the game...”

Defeating Fenerbahçe 85-67 at the 13th week match of Turkish Basketball League, Anadolu Efes coach Dusan Ivkovic stated his thoughts at the post-game press conference:

“It was a very good game for us. We played against Fenerbahçe, a very strong team. We limited their offense to 67 points, and that’s very valuable for us. I don’t really want to talk about our 19-2 run at the very start of the game. Today, we only had problems in the second quarter. Fenerbahçe scored 29 points here, while we scored 25. We were very good at the other parts of the match. We played as a team, and defended as a team. We outperformed our opponent in every stat. We kept our opponent below 50% in the paint. Saric and Lasme had foul problems early in the game, but we balanced that with team play. The key was to control the game. This is very crucial. While we had 16 assists and 11 turnovers, Fenerbahçe had 10 assists and 16 turnovers. Before the match, they had 17 assists and 11 turnovers per game. This was the key to the match. I would like to wish a new year filled with love, peace and joy to all basketball fans. Starting from tomorrow, we will be preparing for the road game against Laboral Kutxa in the Euroleague. We will fly to Vitoria on 1 January. We have to work hard and proceed...”

Anadolu Efes’s young talent Deniz Kılıçlı also stated his thoughts: “We knew that the opponent was a very good team. While preparing, we were focused on disrupting the opponent’s high assist and low turnover balance, and we were successful at that. We tried to keep the pace higher than our opponent. Achieving that also won us the game. Everyone on the team played ambitiously, which is our reason for success...”
