Ahmet Çakı: “We want to win our match at home, and come back here once more...”

Defeated by Fenerbahçe 79-101 at the fourth match of Spor Toto Basketball League playoff finals, Anadolu Efes coach Ahmet Çakı stated his thoughts at the post-game press conference:

“First of all, I would like to congratulate Fenerbahçe. Today, they played the best match of the series at their home court. And the fans created a wonderful atmosphere. As to the match; we started well. We pressed the right buttons in the first five minutes. My decision for this match was like this. Since we lost our previous match in the final quarter, I decided to allocate fewer minutes in the first half to our players like Heurtel and Dunston. However, this plan didn’t work out. Our players off the bench could not contribute as expected. As you know, Diebler has only recently recovered from injury. And the opponent did a good job keeping Granger under pressure. We lost our rhythm. We allowed 18 points in the last five minutes. We tried to play basketball according to our own script. Fenerbahçe is a good team, and they played well. Our defense today wasn’t as bad to allow 100 points. Fenerbahçe was good as a team. We lost. I would like to thank my lads. They all did their best. Right now, we want to win our match at home, and come back here once more...”

Anadolu Efes’s young talent Furkan Korkmaz also stated his thoughts: “We had a nice start into the game. Fenerbahçe has an advantage in terms of fans here, and they used that to their benefit. When you are trailing by 15 or 16 points in the first half, it is very hard to make a comeback against a team like Fenerbahçe. We could not recover. There are lots of factors that contribute to that outcome. We have to see our mistakes, and correct them. In such case, there is absolutely no reason why we cannot win. I would like to congratulate Fenerbahçe.”
