Ataman: “We tried to play a tougher basketball in the second half…”

Defeating Tofaş team 87-85 in the 28th-week away match of ING Basketball Super League, Anadolu Efes head coach Ergin Ataman stated his thoughts post-game:

"We played in a low tempo especially in the first half of the match. Our defensive toughness was low. We scored 50 points in our offensive game, of course, but our rival scored easy shots. Guaranteeing first place in the league in the last few weeks, guaranteeing third place while going to Milano in Euroleague created a lack of motivation. We didn’t play tough in these matches, because nothing would’ve changed even if we win or lose. We tried to play tougher basketball within the second half of the match. We will play a similar match against Fenerbahçe Beko Friday evening. The result of the match won’t affect the ranking for both teams but the important thing is the playoffs are about to begin in Euroleague. Real Madrid qualified to playoffs in sixth place but they have experience. They played Final Four for years. We have to catch the tough match rhythm. We will start to prepare for the playoffs tomorrow. We have to increase the personal form levels. This was the reason that we played with almost every player tonight. We couldn’t train, and couldn’t find the tempo needed in the matches. Even though there were turnovers, this was the kind of game we wanted to play.  Tofaş is a great team but there could be a better training match for us. I am happy with the rhythm of the second half.”
