Poirier, who developed through the youth ranks of Paris Levallois in France, moved up to the first team in the 2013-14 season. In the 2015-16 season, the French player transferred to Hyeres-Toulon, and after one season, he returned to Paris Levallois. In the 2017-18 season, Poirier took his first international experience by joining Spain's Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz, where he played for two years before transferring to the NBA's Boston Celtics at the beginning of the 2019-20 season.
