Ahmet Çakı: “We want to win the fourth match to tie the series...”

Defeated by Fenerbahçe 72-84 at the third match of Spor Toto Basketball League playoff finals, Anadolu Efes coach Ahmet Çakı stated his thoughts at the post-game press conference:

“At the third match of the series, we had experience from the first two. We lost our first match at home even though we didn’t play badly, and we won the second one by playing well. While coming here, I was expecting this kind of atmosphere. In the first match, Fenerbahçe had 37 attempts from the foul line. Frankly, I was expecting the same atmosphere from the first two matches. However, it wasn’t the case in the first half today. In the first half, Fenerbahçe had 21 free throw attempts. To me, at least 10 of them were due to bad calls. Also, Cedi and Tyus had similar plays that could be considered fouls. In the first half of the match, we saw double standards. Fenerbahçe can achieve this with their fans. The officials have to be ready for this while coming here. In the third quarter, we were finally allowed to defend. While heading into the fourth quarter, the score was tied. In the beginning of the final quarter, we had two or three bad attempts on offense. After the 11-0 scoring run from the opponent, we lost the match. We could have reacted in the first half, but 21 foul shots broke our strength. However, the comeback in the third quarter was very important. If we could play well in the final quarter, we could have won the match. The series is still going on. I hope the fourth match will be administered with desirable standards. We would like to win here, and tie the series. In the first match, we didn’t react to the foul, because it was a good call. I hope things will be more balanced in the fourth match.”

Anadolu Efes’s young talent Furkan Korkmaz also stated his thoughts: “In today’s match, we had a few breaking points. We made clumsy mistakes in those moments. As in the first two matches, we fought well. Right now, we will start preparing for the fourth match...”
