Anadolu Efes: 72 - CSKA Moskova: 76

Preparing for the new season, Anadolu Efes was defeated by CSKA Moscow 76-72 at the first match in Tübad Banvit Tournament. Anadolu Efes was trailing 54-43 at the halftime of the match, played at Abdi İpekçi Arena.

Along with Dario Saric and Oğulcan Baykan; Doğuş Balbay and Nenad Krstic who are out due to injuries did not play in the match.

Starting the match with Heurtel, Cedi, Birkan, Brown and Tyus, Anadolu Efes got the first field goal of the match with an incredible dunk by Tyus. Scoring from under the paint with Brown and Alex, Efes had two three-pointers by Birkan, ahead 12-9 through the fourth minute. Responding to the opponent’s scoring with Cedi in the second part of the quarter, Efes had two three-pointers by Granger to tie the game. At the end of the first 10 minutes of the game, the score was tied 23-23. Starting the second quarter with Diebler’s points from the line, Efes had a field goal by Okben, trailing 32-29 while heading into the 14th minute. Following the opponent’s field goals, Efes was trailing 44-37 in the 17th minute with Brown and Diebler’s points. Scoring with Heurtel following a timeout by CSKA Moscow, Efes had a slam dunk by Brown, and was trailing 54-43 at the half.

Starting the second half with a 7-0 scoring run by Granger and Birkan, Efes cut the lead to four in the 24th minute: 50-54. Following CSKA Moscow’s timeout, Efes got three points by Cedi and Heurtel from the foul line, and at 26.30, cut the lead to one point: 53-54. Getting five more points in the remaining duration by Heurtel and Dunston, Anadolu Efes pulled ahead and finished the third quarter ahead 58-57 with a quarter score of 15-3. As Heurtel scored our first points in the final quarter, the score was 62-61 in favor of Efes in the 32nd minute. With Granger’s three, Efes was leading 65-61 at 33.30. Trailing 67-65 with 4.20 left in the match, Anadolu Efes had a single accurate free throw by Dunston and a three pointer by Granger with 3.40 left in the game, and took the lead 69-67.  Unable to reclaim the lead in the remaining duration despite getting three points with Diebler, Anadolu Efes left the court defeated 76-72.

In the second match of the tournament, Anadolu Efes will face Banvit tomorrow (Saturday, September 26th) at 19:00.
