Ataman: ”We've Been Waiting For This Moment In The Last Two Years ...”

Head coach Ergin Ataman of Anadolu Efes, who won the championship by beating FC Barcelona 86-81 in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Final Four Final, explained his views as follows:

“We've been waiting for this moment for the last two years. We talked about it in every meeting with my players, in every practice. We were talking about reaching the Final Four again, reaching the final again. It would never be enough for us after we didn't win. After the match, our President Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called and conveyed his congratulations. We represent the Turkish people, and we know that all our people are watching us tonight. We played for them. I am very happy for that reason. We deserve this success, my players deserve it. Barcelona is a team that finished first in the league, they played very well tonight as well. We've been waiting for this moment since the final we lost against CSKA in 2019, and this time we made it. I know my players, I know how hard they worked for it. The game we play gives me the self-confidence I have. It was made possible by the energy of my players, everyone at the club, our families, and everyone who supported us. I've played the Final Four four times, placed third twice. We finished second in 2019 but now I am happy to be the first Turkish coach to win the Euroleague."

Vasilije Micic, who won the Final Four MVP award, expressed his views as follows: "I am very happy. I congratulate all my teammates. This is an incredible achievement. I also congratulate our coach Ergin Ataman. He really believed in us and helped us reach our goal. Thank you very much."
