Dusan Ivkovic: “It was a great experience for our young prospects...”

Defeated by Karşıyaka 85-71 at the fifth match of Turkish Basketball League play-off finals, losing the title, Anadolu Efes coach Dusan Ivkovic stated his thoughts at the post-game press conference:

“First and foremost, I would like to congratulate Karşıyaka. They were the better side today. This is something really good for Turkish basketball. They became champions after 28 years. A non-Istanbul team claiming the title is very good news for Turkish basketball. Karşıyaka plays excellent, modern basketball. They managed to eliminate two strong Euroleague teams, Fenerbahçe and Anadolu Efes, without the home court advantage. I was hoping we would play seven matches. My team was unfortunately not ready for this game. First of all, we were not ready in terms of our mental condition. Being mentally prepared is very important to win and keep the series going. We were in control of the game in the first half, yet we played awful in the third quarter, and performed badly on defense. The score for this period was 26-12 in our opponent’s favor. We played two finals this year – one in the Turkish Cup, and one in the Turkish League. We made into the last eight in the Euroleague. It was a great experience for the team and for our young prospects...”

Anadolu Efes’s young talent Cedi Osman also stated his thoughts: “I would like to congratulate Karşıyaka. We meant to play well today, yet we couldn’t. We weren’t able to play effectively in the first part of the game. Karşıyaka was simply the better side. I would like to congratulate them for claiming the title.”
